The children are asked to be able to spell all the words on the list attached by the end of Year One. Please practise them with your child as many of them do not follow the rules of phonics and as such can be quite tricky for the children. It would be helpful to get into the habit of practising 5 spellings per week with your child; this will both help them when practising spellings in class, as well as with feeling more confident when applying these words in their writing. Thank you!
Your child is expected to be able to read all of these words by the end of Year 1. Please practise them as much as possible at home to support their learning.
Times tables
By the end of Year 1, the children are expected to quickly recall the 10, 5, and 2 times tables. There are lots of useful games, songs etc. out there. We recommend the 'Hit the Button' game via the TopMarks website and to mix up the challenge of hitting the questions and the answers to aid familiarity and recall.
